National Forestry Reserve of Magallanes
Beautiful National Reserve created in 1932. Possesses a net of paths converted to walk, mainly through the typical Magellan forest, detaching coigue, lenga and ñirre. In these excursion you can reach viewpoints where you can enjoy of the best panoramic view of the city of Punta Arenas, Magellan Strait and Tierra del Fuego Island. It is also possible to observe the arise of underground waters and vestiges of old shell gathering.
Location: 7.5 Kms. west from Punta Arenas, you can go by car (taxi or rental )or with a travel agency.
Duration of the trip: half a day up to 2 days depending on the paths the tourist wants to do.
Navigation to Isla Magdalena, Natural monument “Los pinguinos”
There you can see one of the biggest penguin colony of Austral Chile, with a population estimated in 144.000 couples of the Magellan specie (Sphenicus Magellanicus). On the way there is also bird and dolphin watching characteristic species of the Magellan Strait.
Location: 35 kms. northwest from Punta Arenas.
Duration: 5 hours.

National Park Pali Aike
Protected Wild Area, characterized by having many basaltic lava spills , which principal attractive is Pali Aike Cave that contains vestiges of settlements over 11.000 years old. In the area, there is a walk of an hour and a half (RT) up to the area called “Devil’s Residence” that leads to the crater of an old volcano. Other important attractions are: Devil’s Escorial, Stoneyards and Ana Lagoon.
Location: 195 kms. northeast from Punta Arenas.
How to get there: Going out of the city on route 9 north up to 47km., then take International Route CH N° 255, going on that one up to km166 where there is a sign “Parque Nacional Pali Aike”

Marine Fauna watching
This half day trip is developed in Rio Seco area and offers the possibility to see Coastal Flora and Fauna, including birds, sea wolves and white side dolphins. There is also a tour to the old installations of the industrial refrigerator “The South American Export Syndicate Ltd.”and a walk on the historical deck from which the rescue expedition for the Endurance Ship crew to the Anctartic, commanded by Sir Ernest Shackleton. The maritime circuit can be developed in a kayak or zodiac.

UMAG Aquarium
Marine Biodiversity project that shelters among its species octopuses (octopus mimus),crustaceans like King Crab (lithodes santolla) and innumerous other species of great importance and commercial value. The University uses this space to design an aquarium where shellfish, sea shells and crustacean from the area will be shown.
Location: km 25 Route 9 north .

Otway Sound Penguin Colony
From September to April going on a interpretative path, in a 2 kms. walk approximately, one can see this nice defenseless birds in their natural environment along with other species of Patagonia.
Location : 69 kms. from Punta Arenas by the shore of Otway Sound.

Ñandu Park
The Ñandu Park is opened for visitors to watch, photograph and feed Guanacos and Ñandues ( 100 individuals approximately) among them one month old charitas (lesser rhea) , one year old young individuals and two years adults.

Patagonian Fauna. (Estancia Lolita)
This Exhibition Area offers a varied sample of Patagonian Fauna , which can be seen closely and reunited in one place in its natural environment. It counts with species as Guanaco, Alpaca, Grey Fox, Puma, Peludos, Patagonian Cuy, and a bird house with Caranchos, bandurrias, swans, different kinds of wild ducks, carancas and huairabos among others.
Location: 42 km from Punta Arenas.

Forestry Reserve Laguna Parrillar
Possesses a 18.414 hectares surface . The area is special for people who like outdoor resting and for sportive fishing lovers (Fontinalli or Stream Trout). It is also possible to walk some paths with Flora and Fauna watching, Lenga and Coigue forests that shelter great variety of birds and animals.
Location: 52 kms. south from Punta Arenas.

Whale Watching, Marine Park Francisco Coloane
It´s a Marine Park located by the surroundings of the Island Carlos III in the Magellan Strait.
It is the first protected marine area of Chile. Its importance lies in the inclusion of areas that form a biologic corridor for the hump whale, sea wolves colonies and several Magellan penguin nesting zones.
Location : Carlos III Island.
Depatures: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.
Whale Watching Season: December to April.
