DIENTES DE
NAVARINO CIRCUIT
|
The Dientes de
Navarino circuit
is the southern
trekking route
of the world, surrounding
the chain of hills
of the Dientes,
whose steep summits
are over 1,000
meters high. This
way the trekking
is in the middle
of an imposing
mountain landscape
dominated by frozen
lagoons, snowed
horns, rock slopes
and passes with
striking view of
the Beagle Channel
and the south side
of the island.
In this zone it
is possible to
appreciate beautiful
phenomenon link
to the snow melting,
such as the birth
of torrents and
underground rivers.
The bird population
and the fauna decrease
with the height,
however is more
frequent the sighting
of condors.
The mountain route
is not hard for
walkers in good
shape, although
the climate conditions
are absolutely
determinant to
the feasibility
of the circuit.
This scene is ideal
for the practice
of mountain climbing,
rambling and rock
climbing, as testified
by some tourists
interviewed in
the place.

This interesting
tour begins in
Puerto Williams,
specifically at
"La Virgen" waterfall,
located 3 km. from
downtown, and it
lasts approx. 4
hours (round trip).
At the cascade
begins the trail,
going into the
wood of lenga (Nothofagus
pumilio), eastbound.
The trail is well
demarcated with
painted marked
trees to guide
the way (there
is another 4 to
5 days trekking
circuit recently
opened that surrounds
the Dientes de
Navarino). In a
continuous, steep
and attractive
zigzag, the limit
of the wood is
reached in 20 to
40 minutes, white

stretch in straight
line towards the
ante-summit of
the hill, which

the sight is wonderful.
If you can see
the preceded and
besides you can
appreciate some
lagoons of the
mountain chain
called Dientes
de Navarino, then
you are on the
top of La Bandera
hill.

Cape
Horn extension
Puerto Williams
|
This flight starts
in Punta Arenas
to Cape horn, where
it is possible
to appreciate in
all its magnitude
the joint of islands
that make up this
National Park.
As proof of the
passing of man
for such challenging
place, it may be
seen a monument
built to commemorate
the five-hundredth
anniversary of
the Discovery of
America, erected
by the Chilean
section of the
brotherhood of
captains of the
Cape Horn, the
"CAPHORNIERS".
The sculpture represents
a flying albatross
and was erected
in memory of all
nations seamen
who lost their
lives fighting
the inclemency
of the Chilean
sea.
The flight allows
to gaze a wonderful
sight of Darwin
mountain chain
and Beagle Channel,
named after the
British vessel
on which captain
Robert Fitz Roy
sailed in 1826
the southern territory
baptizing channels
and islands with
his officers names.
It
is possible to
sail on pleasure
cruisers from Puerto
Williams to fiords
and channels of
Tierra del Fuego.
On these cruises
you will be able
to know the legendary
Cape Horn, that
marks the last
extreme of the
American continent.
In this point Pacific
and Atlantic oceans
joints, showing
the pushing force
of the two biggest
masses of water
of the planet.
Excellent museum
with history of
the Yaganes and
graphic samples
of local natural
resources. Gusinde
was a worldwide
famous anthropologist
and a priest of
the Divine Verb
order that worked
among the Yaganes
and Onas from 1918
to 1923.
It outstands
over the other
buildings by its
peculiar external
style. It bears
the name "Our
Lady of the Carmen"
because it was
inaugurated with
the enthronement
of the image of
the Virgin of the
Carmen, on October
18th of 1967.
The church also
has the Virgen
of the Sealers,
name given to an
image of Our Lady
of the Carmen because
the men that took
hazards in these
remote regions
in fragile boats
were mostly seal
hunters.
Located 2 km.
from Puerto Williams
it is an historical
attraction because
lives there the
last descendants
of the Yamana people,
moved from Mejillones,
Robalo and Puerto
Truco.
Located 30 km.
west of Puerto
Williams. It was
the last native
redoubt of the
province, inhabited
by nearly a hundred
representatives
and descendants
of Yagan people
from the third
decade of last
century until 1966
and 1967 when the
dying population
was moved to Ukika
Village, outside
Puerto Williams.
"OMORA"
ETHNO-BOTANICAL
PARK
The
"Omora"
park is located
5 km. from Puerto
Williams. In it
may be seen the
botanical richness
of the area, melted
with the Yagan
culture. Its is
an outdoor classroom,
food for students
and school and
university teachers
and for visitors
interested in Yagan
nature, landscapes
and culture. A
natural laboratory
to study the ecology
of the southern
woods of the planet,
including process
and effect of the
global change,
in Cape Horn commune.
A public space
