The

FUERTE
BULNES AND PUERTO
DEL HAMBRE
Located
approx. 60 km.
south of Punta
Arenas. Mainly
interesting by
its historical
importance, since
Puerto del Hambre
was the first Spanish
colony in the coast
of the Magellan
Strait and Fuerte
Bulnes the first
Chilean settlement.
Today Fuerte Bulnes
is a historical
reconstruction
of the first fort
where Chile established
the first Patagonian
settlement and
took possession
of the Strait and
adjoining lands
(1843). It is located
in the km. 60 of
route 9 south,
on an elevation
of point Santa
Ana, an hour and
a half from Punta
Arenas.
Puerto del Hambre
is in the bank
of Bahia Buena
coast, where Captain
Sarmiento de Gamboa
founded the city
King Don Felipe,
on March of 1584.
This attempt of
Spanish colonization
had tragic end:
their inhabitants
starved to death.
Years later the
English corsair
Thomas Cavendish
anchored in that
place and finding
only the rests
of the old colony,
rebaptized the
place with the
name of "Port
Famine", Puerto
del Hambre in Spanish,
name that keeps
until today.
CABO
FROWARD CIRCUIT

Cabo Froward, at
the south of Punta
Arenas, Brunswick
peninsula, is the
last continental
point of the American
continent. The
tour is done on
a zodiac boat through
the Strait until
Cabo Froward, where
is erected the
Cross of the Seas.
KAYAK
AND FISHING IN
SAN JUAN RIVER

Juan is located
60 km. south of
Punta Arenas, the
main urban center
of Chilean Patagonia.San
Juan is inside
Laguna Parrillar
Forest Reserve
and its characteristic
is the presence
of peat bogs and
woods.
San Juan River
is used for kayak
sailing because
its quiet waters
are ideal to learn
this activity.
Besides, the river
is a good place
for sport fishing
in a natural and
peaceful environment.
NAVIGATION
IN THE STRAIT
The
Magellan Strait
offers every kind
of nautical activity,
among them navigation
by channels and
fiords, navigation
in zodiac boats
to Cabo Froward,
and kayak activities
in strong-flowing
rivers.
The Strait climate
is temperate to
cold and it is
recomended to sail
with appropriate
clothing because
of the strong swell
in some zones.
